Advisory role brief
One page, ten minutes

Define the role before you fill it.

This brief is the specification for one advisory appointment at your company. It exists because most advisory relationships fail for the same reason: nobody wrote down what the advisor was actually for.

Fill it with a Room2Rise conversation rather than alone. The value is in being asked the follow-up question when an answer is vague. It is yours to keep and use however you like, whether or not Room2Rise ever finds you anybody.

What this costs you

Free for founding members. Future subscription model.

The advisor is compensated in equity by your company, on terms you and they agree directly, papered through a third-party equity platform. Room2Rise does not set those terms.

The company

01

Company name

02

Your name

03

Date

04

Stage and cap table

Round raised, roughly how much, headcount, and whether you have external investors on the register.

The problem the advisor is for

05

Which area

Tick every area the problem touches. This is how we search for the right advisor.

06

The constraint

Now the sentence. Name a decision you are currently getting wrong or deferring, in your words. Not a wish. A decision. The ticked area tells us where to look; this tells us what the job actually is.

07

The deadline

The date this stops being an inconvenience and starts being expensive. If there is no date, this brief is not finished.

08

What the advisor needs to have already done

Not a title and not a sector. The specific thing they have survived. "Has taken an Australian product into a regulated buyer" rather than "enterprise experience".

09

The first decision they get handed

What is waiting for them in week one. If nothing is waiting, the appointment will drift, which is how most advisory relationships die.

The terms

10

Time commitment

Hours per month, and where in your week those hours come from. Both sides sign up to a number.

11

Equity band and vesting

Typically 0.25 to 1.0 per cent, vesting over one to two years against milestones you and the advisor agree. Write the band you are willing to grant and the milestones you would attach it to.

12

Who approves this

Names, not roles. You alone, your co-founders, or your lead investor. If a consent right exists, note it here.

13

What good looks like at six months

One measurable statement you would use to decide whether to continue.

What this is not

This is an advisory appointment. It carries no board seat, no vote, no directorship and no statutory duties. Room2Rise does not place directors. The advisor advises. You decide.

Where you are with this

Pick one. Nothing here commits you to anything, it just tells us what to send you next.
